Report: EU may extend anti-Russian sanctions for 6 mos Jun–source
MOSCOW/BRUSSELS, May 20 (PRIME) -- The E.U. plans to prolong its sanctions against Russia for six months in June, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing sources.
Bloomberg reported citing six European officials that “European Union nations are set to renew sanctions against Russia for six more months amid a stalemate in efforts to decisively end two years of fighting in eastern Ukraine.”
The E.U.’s Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini said earlier on Friday that the union is not discussing an extension of anti-Russian sanctions over the political crisis in Ukraine but plans to start talks on a rollover of the existing measures in a few weeks.
Mogherini also said she sees it necessary to hold a political discussion chaired by France and Germany regarding the fulfillment of the Minsk peace agreements.
The current set of European sanctions will remain in force until July 31.
